Instructor Training

Suvery for Directors of Education and Campus Directors

Each course is taught live in the Q-room. Each course has two components. The first session of each course is taught in a lecture/interactive format. The second session is taught as a live practicum which allows participants to lock-in what they just learned by demonstrating their knowledge to their classmates. Participants should come prepared to learn and not just to attend. All participants should expect to prepare materials overnight between the first and second sessions.

The nine courses that comprise, "The Q-room Instructor Training Program" are listed below:

QR-101 Teaching Styles
Skills for instructing in a live online and residential classes
Total hours of live instruction =5

This course is designed to give the participants a basic understanding of various teaching styles. Through discussion, guided practice and self-analysis, the participants will gain practical knowledge of what might work best for them as teachers in their individual classrooms.

QR-102 Adult Learning Styles
Know your audience and get the best out of them
Total hours of live instruction = 5

This course prepares instructors of adult students to better understand how adults learn. Through discussion, demonstration, and guided practice, the adult instructor will gain an understanding of how adults learn.

QR-103 Psychology of Learning
Why are children and adults different kinds of learners
Total hours of live instruction = 5

This course is designed to give participants a basic background and definition of the psychology of leaning. In addition, the participants will understand how learning takes place, and learn the differences between how children and adults learn. Through discussion, guided practice, self analysis and by examining four distinct generations in our society, the participants will gain a practical knowledge for developing lesson plans that work for optimal adult learning.

QR-104 Interpersonal Communications Skills
Fundamentals and advanced techniques in truly connecting in the classroom
Total hours of live instruction = 5

This course is designed to give participants knowledge of the various aspects of interpersonal communication (IPC) techniques and skills that will aid the teacher in the classroom. Through discussion, guided practice, investigating human perception and attitudes and considering the many variables that affect interpersonal communication by developing skills to: (1) eliminate communication barriers between teachers and their students, and (2) strengthen their ability to communicate on an interpersonal level with their students.

QR-105 Q-room Preparation I
Learning to use all the tools and techniques of the Q-room
Total hours of live instruction = 5

This course is designed to give participants a basic foundation for developing and implementing a class. It is recommended that both Part I and Part II to be taken by the participant. However, depending upon the individual, Part I and Part II may be taken separately. Part I of this two part seminar will focus on: (1) the classroom environment, (2) ergonomic activity considerations for the classroom environment, (3) developing lesson plans and (4) the assignment of practice lessons in Part II of the course.

QR-105 Q-room Presentation II
Make it flow, Best practices in the Q-room Part-II
Total hours of live instruction = 5

Part II of this course will focus on conducting an actual mini-class relating to the participants teaching discipline. The student will be able to perform self feedback as well as receive constructive feedback from other class members and the instructor.

QR-106 Lecture Methods
There really is a time and place for everything
Total hours of live instruction = 5

This course is designed to give instructors of students a better understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of the lecture method of instruction and to investigate a multimedia approach to instruction. Through discussion, guided practice, and a survey of lecturing opinions, the participants will gain practical knowledge for developing teaching methods that might work best for them as teachers in their individual classrooms.

QR-107 Socratic Teaching
Design and techniques
Total hours of live instruction = 5

This course is designed to give the participant a basic understanding and practice of Socratic teaching methodology. Major items to be covered will be: (1) background and purpose of Socratic Teaching, (2) establishing student ground rules for Socratic Teaching and (3) practical tools and techniques for Socratic Teaching in the classroom. A brief Socratic teaching lesson will be given by each participant.

QR-108 Socratic Practicum
Nothing succeeds like practice, practice, practice
Total hours of live instruction = 5

This practicum is given to those participants who want to increase their skills in Socratic Teaching. Each participant will present a lesson relating to their specific area of teaching interest. Constructive feedback will be conducted by the participant, their fellow students and their instructor.

The full "Instructor Training Program" is available upon request. It consists of all the indivudual courses listed above but the timing and schedule will dictated by the institution. A minimum of 5 instructors in required.
